Frequently asked questions
General
The Free tier is genuinely free forever and includes the full Application Tracker, AI match scores, the browser extension, and 1 AI-matched job per day, with monthly refilling AI credits and no credit card. Pro is $7 per week or $20 per month and adds 10 fresh matches every morning, the full Application Kit per match, the Story Bank, Smart Inbox automatic email sync, and 40M monthly AI credits. Ultimate is $18 per week or $50 per month and gives the biggest credit pool at 150M per month, plus 25 daily matches and priority AI processing.
AI credits are how Jobless meters the AI behind your job search. Every AI action you trigger spends a small, predictable amount from one shared monthly pool, with no per-feature limits, so you spend on whatever matters to your search. Roughly: scoring a job match costs about 12,000 credits, a cover letter about 6,000, a tailored resume about 60,000, parsing a recruiter email about 3,400, and generating a story-bank answer about 8,000. As a simple yardstick, 1M credits covers around 83 job scores, 166 cover letters, or 294 emails parsed, so it scales linearly with your grant. Free includes 1M credits per month, Pro 40M, and Ultimate 150M; weekly plans get a quarter of the monthly amount each week. Your daily hand-picked matches are included free and never touch your credit balance. See the AI Credits page for the full breakdown and an interactive calculator.
Yes. Cancel from your account settings at any time. You retain access through the end of your current billing period. After cancellation your account drops to the Free tier rather than being deleted, so your tracker, resumes, and history stay accessible.
Pro and Ultimate subscribers can pause for up to 90 days. Useful if you accept an offer and want to keep your data warm in case the search restarts. Pause from account settings under Subscription.
We offer prorated refunds within 7 days of purchase if you have not actively used Pro or Ultimate features. After 7 days or if the AI credits have been substantially consumed, refunds are issued at our discretion. See the refund policy page for details.
Your resume, profile, and application data live in your account and are never shared with employers or third parties. Match scoring runs server-side against your private profile. We use OAuth for Google and GitHub sign-in and request only the minimum scopes needed. Smart Inbox uses read-only mail access, only ever reads recruiting mail, and never sends, deletes, or stores credentials. Full privacy policy is on the privacy page.
Email and password, Google OAuth, and GitHub OAuth. Magic-link sign-in is on the roadmap. Account recovery works via email password reset for any account that has a verified email on file.
Delete from account settings under the Danger Zone section. Deletion is permanent and removes your profile, resumes, applications, and history within 30 days. Polar billing records are retained as required by law for 7 years.
Yes. Jobless is available worldwide. Job ingestion is strongest for US, EU, UK, and Canada-based remote roles. Local-language coverage is currently English-first with experimental support for German and Spanish output in the Application Kit.
It works in two passes. First it narrows the board down to the roles that genuinely look like your background, so you are only compared against jobs you would actually want. Then AI re-runs the match on each of those, reading it against your profile to judge how well you really fit, and spells out your strengths, gaps, and red flags. You only input your resume, Jobless generates your preferences from it, and a free match score shows on every matched job with no credit card.
Yes, the AI job application tracker is free and unlimited, with the full Kanban board, list view, timeline, notes, and per-card materials on every tier with no card cap and no credit card. Every card links to the tailored resume and cover letter you sent, applying moves it to Applied automatically, and you can run parallel searches by tag. The only piece on a paid tier is automatic inbox status updates, which run through Smart Inbox on Pro and Ultimate.
Yes. Paste a job and the Application Kit reads the full description against your real profile and, in one pass, rebuilds your resume to emphasize what that role asks for, writes a matching cover letter from the same job analysis, and runs an honest gap analysis showing where you fall short. Output uses ATS-friendly headings and a humanize toggle, and you edit every line before you send. Generating a kit is a Pro, credit-based action; saving every result in the free tracker is unlimited.
Yes, Story Bank saves every screening answer you write and offers it back on the next form. So when a different company asks the same thing in different words, the answer you already wrote is waiting instead of a blank box, and you can edit, rewrite, or delete any saved answer anytime. Your best answers feed the extension autofill and your kit, and you always review and click submit yourself. Story Bank is a Pro feature.
Yes, your application status updates automatically when a recruiter emails you. Connect Gmail or Outlook in 30 seconds with read-only OAuth, and Smart Inbox reads each recruiter email by meaning, classifies it as an interview invite, reschedule, follow-up, soft pass, rejection, or offer, and moves the matching card on your tracker in real time. High-confidence updates apply automatically and ambiguous ones ask for a one-tap confirm. It never sends, deletes, or scrapes. Smart Inbox is available on Pro and Ultimate.
The extension autofills applications across many of the major ATS platforms, so the same flow works on most job forms. Before it touches the form it generates a resume and cover letter written for that specific job, fills the fields, reuses your saved Story Bank answers, then pauses on a dry-run preview. Nothing submits until you review and click submit, so you apply at human pace and never mass-blast. You hit send, not a bot.
Application Tracker
Two triggers. When you apply through the browser extension, the card jumps to Applied on its own. When a recruiter replies to your email, Smart Inbox reads that message and moves the card to Interview, Offer, or Rejected, asking you to confirm before each change so nothing moves wrongly.
The company, role, status, and stage, plus the salary, your notes, contacts, and a follow-up date, and the exact tailored resume, cover letter, and answers you applied with. Every action is timestamped, so you can see when you applied and when you heard back.
You connect Gmail or Outlook with secure access, and Smart Inbox reads only your job-related mail. It figures out what each message is, an interview invite, a rejection, an offer, matches it to the right application on your board, and moves that card. Personal email is ignored, and nothing is sent without you.
No. Because the auto-status reads your inbox, a reply to an application you submitted on a company site or LinkedIn still moves the matching card. Or you can add and move jobs manually.
Yes. Drag any card across the stages, edit any field, add notes or tags, or flip to a sortable list view. The automation is optional, the board is always yours to organize by hand.
Yes. The tracker logs every application and stage change, so it shows how many you applied to, how many replied, and how many reached interview or offer, so you can see where the search is stalling.
Best Matches
It works in two passes. First it narrows the board down to the roles that genuinely look like your background, so you are only compared against jobs you would actually want. Then AI re-runs the match on each of those, reading it against your profile to judge how well you really fit. The result is matches you resemble, not everything with a keyword in common.
Carefully engineered LLM processing reads your own fields and preferences to catch what you are actually into, what you love and what you do not, and the system gets better at it over time as you use it.
Yes. Each match spells out its strengths, gaps, and red flags, plus the move to make, so the score is never a black box. You see exactly where you fit instead of a single hidden number.
Daily matches delivered to your inbox every morning, plus on-demand matching whenever you want to pull a fresh set instead of waiting for the next day.
Just your resume. Jobless generates your job preferences from it automatically, and you can change those preferences whenever you want to steer what gets matched.
Application Kit
From one read of a job, it produces a tailored resume, a cover letter, the open screening answers, and an honest gap analysis, all in a single pass, so you are not running three separate tools per application.
It starts from proven resume templates and knows exactly what to change, add, and adapt for each role, rebuilding from your real experience around what the job asks for and the keywords it needs to clear the ATS.
No. Everything is built from your real history, and instead of inventing skills you do not have, the gap analysis openly shows where you fall short and how to frame what you do have.
It compares your profile against the role's requirements and names what you cover, where you over-qualify, and exactly what is missing, plus how to position yourself, so you decide whether to apply with eyes open.
Yes. You set the tone and what to emphasize, and it writes in your style, learning from the edits and answers you keep, so every application still sounds like you.
Everything is editable before you use it, and nothing is submitted for you. You review the whole kit and apply yourself. Generating a kit is a Pro feature.
Story Bank
Every time you fill out an application, the open-ended answers you write, the "why this company" and "describe a challenge" type questions, are captured and saved to your bank in your own words, tagged by the kind of question they answer, so the next form can find them.
Everywhere you apply. When you write a new resume, cover letter, or answer, Jobless generates from what you have already said about yourself and offers options you pick from, and the browser extension pulls your saved answers straight into application forms, surfacing your strongest one for each field.
Open Story Bank, pick any answer, and read, rewrite, or delete it. Whatever you change becomes what gets reused next time, so your bank always reflects your best current phrasing.
Yes. The answers you reuse most rise to the top, and you can tell it why a match fit or did not, which sharpens both the answers it suggests and your future matches. It remembers the things that make you you.
Yes. Write the careful version once, an employment gap, a layoff, salary expectations, and reuse that exact wording every time it comes up, instead of improvising under pressure on a live form.
No. It offers your saved answers and you review what got filled before anything is sent. You always click submit yourself.
Browser Extension
It autofills applications across many of the major ATS platforms, on the company's own career site or a posting it links to. The current supported list is shown in the extension itself, and platforms are added over time.
Both. It generates a resume and cover letter tailored to the job and uploads them straight into the form's file fields, then fills the text fields, dropdowns, and your saved answers.
Type your own answer, or let Jobless generate one, it finds the previous answers in your Story Bank that resemble the question and writes from those, so even a new question draws on how you have answered similar ones before. Whatever you write or accept is saved back for next time.
Yes. It remembers the jobs you have visited and applied to and saves your progress on a form, so nothing gets lost or submitted twice.
No. It fills everything and shows a full dry-run preview of exactly what landed in each field; you review and click submit yourself. Nothing is mass-submitted, so you apply at human pace, never as a bot.
Add it from the Chrome Web Store and sign in, it autofills from your profile and Story Bank with no extra setup.
Smart Inbox
It reads your incoming recruiter mail, sorts each message by what it actually means, an interview invite, a rejection, an offer, moves the matching card on your tracker, and drops scheduled interviews onto your calendar, so your whole pipeline stays current on its own.
AI drafts the reply in your voice, pulling from what you have already said in your Story Bank and your positioning, in the tone you choose, or you can write it manually. It never invents a time, salary, or commitment you have not approved, and you edit every word before it goes anywhere.
No auto-send, ever. A reply goes out from your own mailbox only when you explicitly click send, every time. Nothing is sent, deleted, or scheduled without you.
It reads only your job-related mail, can send replies you approve, and can add interviews to your calendar. Personal email from friends, family, and newsletters is ignored, and you can disconnect anytime to revoke access.
The mailbox connection runs through Nylas, a third-party email infrastructure provider, so you can review exactly how mail and calendar data are accessed in their terms of service and privacy policy. Jobless only processes job-related messages and never sells or shares your data.
Smart Inbox is an Ultimate-tier feature because it runs AI on every incoming message. The application tracker it updates is free and unlimited, so you get a working free tracker first and turn on automatic email updates if you want them.
